Topsarge History
|
September 11, 2001 has
changed our Nation like no other event in our
history. 911 changed the way the military has
to operate in this global war on terror.
During this period it is vital that our
noncommissioned officer corps continue the rich
tradition of sharing experiences, tactics,
techniques and procedures. The lessons learned
through online collaboration centers like NCO Team,
will enhance the capabilities of today and future
generation noncommissioned officers in ways that we
are only now beginning to realize.
Noncommissioned officers must ensure the appropriate
time is given to effectively mentor our
subordinates. Our Nation’s future depends on
the continued development of our noncommissioned
officer corps |
|
As the [then] CAC CSM, I
would go to the different forums on NCOTeam.org and
just read what the troops were saying especially
about NCOES. I would even engage in that forum with
the troops to exchange thoughts, ideas and ask them
to give their thoughts/opinions on some of the ideas
we were considering at CAC for NCOES. They
provided honest and candid feedback and always had
some great points for us to consider. This is a
great forum for our Soldiers/NCOs and Leaders to
connect and share ideas from around our Army. |
|
I have monitored the
on-line discussions at NCOTeam.org for several years
and found it to be an invaluable resource for
leadership and personnel researchers. The Soldiers'
discussions provide an inpetus
to research by allowing us to track what Soldiers in
the field are thinking and translate these thoughts
into research ideas and objectives.
NCOTeam.org also allows us the opportunity to
contact Soldiers to gather data, informally and
formally, to support ARI's
research mission. Our ability to conduct and
apply research solutions to relevant problems has
been aided by monitoring Soldiers' issues and
suggested solutions. |
|
I
was on this site whenever I logged onto a computer
in |
|
When I was a unit armorer
a couple of years ago, I used the first incarnation
of this site religiously to help in putting my arms
room back together. Now,
reclassed and living in TRADOC-Land, I use it
for continual advice on working with female soldiers
(different from the combat arms world), TRADOC
regs, etc. as well as
general Army knowledge. Every time I log in I see
something new and interesting, particularly from the
senior NCOs posting. |
|
I have used this site
for many years now. It has helped me become a
better leader and do what I truly believe in,
Taking Care of Soldiers. I tell all of my
soldiers i do not
know everything. They know things I do not know,
and I know things they do not know, but it does
no good unless we share that knowledge and
put it to good
use for the army, the mission,
the soldiers. This
site has been extremely
helpful in fulfilling
those needs. No matter what your rank, or
MOS, or years of
experience there is
something on this site that can help you
in your career. If it does not help you
specifically it can help you direct your
soldiers here for information. Excellent site -
keep up the great work! |

One of the things I've enjoyed while attending
various NCOES and other Army courses is the dialog
and feedback amongst the class members and the
instructors on whatever topic is at hand. I consider
this site an extension of that feedback dialog. All
too often, attending to the day to day activities
that our various positions and duties require leaves
very little time for roundtable discussions and in
most cases, you may only have limited numbers of
personnel with like duties to discuss. And in most
of those situations, those of us in the same unit or
area are or may be too close to the issue at hand to
gain from the discussion. Getting an opinion from
colleagues "outside" of the situation provides
possible solutions that would not occur to those in
the middle of it. Though NCODP should be used
for these roundtable
discussions, that is a command structured
format that is usually given a fixed time limit
based on the training plan or plan of the day. This
forum allows members to take part or just monitor,
and still learn a thing or two each time, and at
their leisure (if there is such a thing). Even
though I'm in the National Guard, my duties require
me to attend to various issues, even when not in IDT
status. I visit this site, at the very least, once a
day but usually hit it several times a day and will
continue to do so. |
|
I have been using
this site for almost five years and it has
helped me professionally and personally.
The NCO's in this
group are more professional than
NCO's I have been
stationed with in the past. Being in a
unit that is not in the main stream army, I use
the site to help me updated on the army as it
changes. This site is also good for young
NCO's that have
leadership questions and do not understand how
to handle some situations. It is good for
older NCO's because
it gives them the opportunity to get a better
understanding of how the younger generation of
NCO is thinking. |
|
I
think the best part of this site is definitely the
forums. It is a great thing to be able to get so
many points of view on different issues from
NCO's from all over the
Army. Many times we get stuck in our ways and look
at issues in a very narrow minded manner. I myself
do this. This site is great because anybody can get
another's view on the matter from the outside. |
|
This site has been extremely helpful. My
squadleader told me
about it when it vbnhq.com. Not only does it provide
us with links, pre-made
powerpoint classes, etc.
, but we can also get a real-time feel of the
overall climate of the Army. The
NCO's on this site are
very helpful and eager to share their experience. I
don't know what I would do without it. I have been
in a couple of situations where I had to give
impromptu classes. Instead of doing
a from the hip class, I
can go to ncoteam.org and get a professional
presentation. |
|
I use the site daily for
self development, and as a tool to continuously
expand my knowledge of how to be a leader. The site
is also a great resource to get quick answers. Just
last night I posted a request for help on behalf of
my wife, and had a response within an hour. One
outstanding site. |
|
NCOTeam.org is one of the
most professional and relevant website that I have
found for NCOs. It reaches from the soldiers
that are striving to become a NCO to the Senior NCOs
striving to solve complex problems. It reaches the
whole spectrum from various locations, Reserve, NG,
Active Army, Retirees, etc. The advice given
is relevant, non-biased,
anonymous, touches on the grey areas in the
regulations, and always gives me a different
perspective on a situation. |
|
This has been a great
site for reference. I like to check the site a
couple times a day to see if any of the posts
have info, incidents, or ideas that would
help make our Battalion run smoother or nip negative
trends that others are experiencing. |
|
I use this website as an
area to get ideas and learn from fellow NCOs. Given
the changing Army, the only way we can make it is to
build a strong Corps using all the tools available
to us. |
|
I have found the
ncoteam.org website very helpful. Being a DA
Civilian, I have a different perspective on things I
am sure. It has been a great resource to see
what issues are on the minds of the NCO Corp and how
I as a DA CIV can better serve the troops on my
post. I have also enjoyed being able to share
some information on the programs and services
available to service members and families through
MWR and ACS. I look forward to being able to
present more information in the months to come.
In the fast op tempo world we live in today, it's
easy to forget what is out there and what is
available. It is also easy to feel you are the
only one with a problem, gripe or issue. Your
website provides a valuable forum and wonderful
resources. I learn more each time I am on the
site. Thank you for allowing me the
opportunity to participate. |
|
I use the site to stay in
tune with other NCO Leaders throughout the Army.
There is excellent advice on how to lead Soldiers,
how to do NCOER’s &
counseling’s. Despite the fact that I’m retiring
soon, I still find a lot of great info on the site
that will assist me later in a leader position.
|
|
I
get a great deal of advice and guidance from this
site. Some of it I ask for; most I get just by
reading the dialogue between others. Occasionally, I
share my small wisdom with the group. As the only
full time soldier in a Reserve unit, I have very
little daily contact with other NCOs. I see a lot of
them one weekend each month, but not in a setting
conducive to much inter-personal discussion. This
site is the group of peers I use like other NCOs use
their neighbors and co-workers. |
|
In general, I use every
area of this site. While most of my time is
spent in the Forums, I visit the other areas once in
a while to see what is new. I have been a member of
this site since it began as Virtual
Batallion HQ. I
look upon this site as a virtual NCO club. It
is a place where NCOs meet and discuss their
problems with PVT Snuffy,
their problems with the CO, their solutions to other
problems and they share what they know with the
other NCOs that gather. I always find an empty
seat and I am alway
welcome. |
|
Great site, gives leaders
the opportunities to get answers QUICK! that's is my
favorite part |
|
I use [NCOTeam.org] for
everything including entertainment. I learn so much
here from |
|
Since I joined this site
I have used it on a daily basis for research,
expressing views and ideas and getting a general
sense of where the NCO Corp is heading. With the
exception of two possibly three individuals
who seemed to be posting
arguementitive replies to posts to start
arguments or forcefully further their own
beliefs this site has been well managed. I only wish
that I had access to a site like this when I was
coming up through the ranks. I constantly recommend
this site as a source of knowledge and experience to
fellow NCO's in my unit
and old friends. I hope this site remains what it
is, a living example of the NCO Corp and a source of
knowledge. |
|
[The] website IS the best
military website out there and I'll continue to
spread that gospel! |
|
Since joining your
list in it's infancy (I
think it was 1999 or 2000?), I have probably told
literally about a five hundred
NCO's about it. Most are simply amazed when
they finally go to the website at the amount of
information you provide, and they are now better
NCO's for it.
Not only has the site made me a better NCO (with
people often asking "how'd you know that?...
where'd you find that out?"), but it is just
enjoyable to see some of the cantankerous
discussions and learn from the experiences of the
most senior members of the discussion group. I have
come to the conclusion that in today's Army being an
NCO is a thankless job. We are the horsepower and
driving force without which they would not survive.
We see commanders come and go, and we drive on day
in and day out caring for our soldiers.
I personally would like to thank you for your
efforts in making the Earmy
site what it is today. I am a better NCO for it, and
all the NCO's in my unit
are better for it (because I recommend it to all of
them). |
|
This resource has
been, and continues to be, an invaluable tool for
professionals to interact and benefit from the
collective knowledge of others in our profession of
arms. An assembly of this many years of experience
is a rare commodity, and something the bulk of us do
not get to experience until we are in a Small Group
setting in the upper levels of NCOES. We have access
to this DAILY which allows us all to benefit
exponentially. Today's Noncommissioned Officer is
accomplishing much more with much less. This forum
is simply a tool that every NCO, from infancy to
seasoned veteran, can be assured that they are
following in the footsteps of excellence. Thank
you...for a priceless wealth of knowledge and
experience. |
|
I find it
[NCOTeam.org] a very informative forum. Yes,
there are a lot of "questionable" posts considering
that the people here are Professionals,
Non-Commissioned Officers,
Leaders.... But, overall, the
information I have obtained here has been excellent.
I would also like to thank [you] for providing this
forum for those of us that truly care. |
|
Your web site is
absolutely outstanding - thank you very much for
making it available for those of us in uniform! |
|
Looks great, first
visit to new site. Think you're doing an
excellent job, keep up the good work |
|
Finally
found you and made sure I emailed your link to my
1SG's! Love your work keep it up! |
|
Thanks allot.
I have to tell you that I really enjoy this forum.
I am getting a lot of good info. I wanted to
ask you if you were going to attend the SMA
Conference in June?
If so, I'd like to make an effort to introduce
myself and shake your hand. |
|
[I] love the
virtual BN HQ..... I may even make [it] my
home page! I was just looking over the assignments,...
I was with 4-67 Armor (Bandits) as my first
assignment from 87-89. I was also at
Ft.Knox in F troop 1/12
CAV supporting the school house... I'm always
looking for those tools to make the job easier, but
you know as well as I; technology has turned the
army into one big power point show! |
|
Has your web sites every
won any awards? The more I look into the website.
The more I wondered how many awards has these sites
won? These sites have exceeded the others sites. |
|
You have a lot of
very useful things on this site,
I would like to say thanks. I will share this with
every soldier I possibly can. |
|
[you
have] compiled more data on this website than any
other military related site out there. What an
atrocity for the Web-site Award givers to
continually bypass this institutionally great site!
Thanks for the job well done... I find it absolutely
amazing for you to work and do this second and
equally hard task of maintain an outstanding forum.
The first place I look for information is
eArmyhq.com!!!! |
|
This site is
taught as part of our NCODP because it is the best
source of NCO knowledge available to RC Soldiers. |
|
Since my
office is right across the hall from the 1SG, I
frequently catch a lot of questions and "Hey
you's" that I need to
seek guidance on. Since subscribing to
eArmyhq last year, I
never fret the difficult-to-find subjects. I
have always found an answer to my question either
through the site, or the NCO Zone email list.
Not only have I found those answers, but I have
received information that "debunks" questionable
information from the "not-so-informed" folks that
are willing to offer the first answer that pops in
their head. |
|
I have
been reading e-mail from the NCO Zone for years some
help some are a sounding board.
Keep it coming they help a lot of NCOs deal
with day to day problems and help guard and Reserve
forces. |
|
I have been
a member of your site for almost 2 years now, and I
am continuing to find it to be a valuable resource
of information. Being a relatively new NCO, I know I
can turn to eArmy,
eSergeant, and related
sites to find the information I need when my peers
are unable to help. Thanks, and keep up the good
work. |
|
Thank you
for the countless hours and the caring that you have
put into this effort for the NCO Corps. |
|
I have been
a member of the NCO Zone since (I believe) early
1999 or so, and I swear by it! It is a
wonderful tool for gathering information and
opinions from other professional soldiers, and at
times just for 'venting' to your peers (which we ALL
need sometimes!). |
|
I first
stumbled across the NCO website a couple of years
ago, and it has become part of my online ritual.
Not only is it a virtual meeting place and open
forum for the free exchange of military related
ideas, it is an actual connection in reality.
Due to your website, I e-mail

Discovered
the VBNHQ Website in Jan 2000. It's come a long way
since. Soldier's ask me
questions, I refer them to VBNHQ. I work in the
Personnel arena, and continue to teach my soldier's
and other leaders how I use the VBNHQ Website to my
advantage to assist soldier's.
There is something for every leader in the Army. It
is my belief that all NCOs should use this site for
a reference. It is the one site that has all the
links in one location. I would like to help, by
submitting ready made classes that deal with the S-1
and NBC areas. I would also like to suggest links to
the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, American Legion and
to the other fine Veteran Organizations available
upon the web. Thank you...and to the other fine NCOs
of the NCO Zone for your fine online mentorship
provided to me. GO ARMY..... BEAT NAVY!!!
Hooah!!! |
|
Great Site. Use it
all the time and so do many other soldiers in the
company. Keep up the Good Work. It [is] appreciated. |
|
I use this site as
a training tool for myself and the NCOs in the
office. I find the discussions and the
Powerpoint presentations
to be very helpful for NCOPD. |
|
I am
a AGR Soldier in the
Great State of Oklahoma, and I wanted to tell you
personally that I really enjoy the information flow
on the ZONE, and off of the web site. |
|
Just wanted to let
the list know that I received my STAB results today
with an affirmative response. Thanks to the zone for
your help when I asked 8 months ago what I needed to
do. Just to let you know that the Army
procedures does work. |
|
This is a useful
site i wanted to let
thank you for making my job easier. This is also a
good way for keeping our soldiers in the loop keep
up the good work. |
|
I just discovered
squadleader.com and it is already helping me so
much! I am

|
I just wanted to
say that I use this site all the time and it is an
awesome resource for young leaders. I hope you
can maintain and will help if you ever need.
|
|
...I love this site. I consider myself to be pretty
educated on a lot of issues, but when I do venture
into deeper water, one of you seniors throws
my a life preserver.
Thank you... I am one of the few who doesn't mind
being corrected... Helps me for
teh next time. It's not a crime to be wrong;
It's a crime to know you're wrong and not taken
action to correct it! |
| I use NCOTeam as a resource
for pertinent, accurate information. When a question
is asked you only get straight answers, by the book
with references cited. If I need a class outline, I
look in the download section and usually find what I
need, if not exactly then certainly something to
start with and adjust to my unit/circumstances. This site is also a terrific place to hear the type of mentoring that sometimes gets short-changed in this day of ever-increasing op-tempo. Any comments or advice given here is based on the principles of Army leadership, and the appropriate regulations. This site does an outstanding job of ensuring that any information posted is accurate and brings credit the the NCO corps. SFC DLF, Wardmaster, Burn ICU, Ft Sam Houston |
|
I find your new look
great. It is easy to navigate and has more info than
ever. Thank you for the great job you do to support
the NCO Corps. |
|
I was in the army for 14
years and I was in training and ops. Your site
has supplied hundreds of NCOs guidance and made sure
that thousands of soldiers received training.
You have saved lives. Thank you for you time. |
| I
just wanted to send you a not to tell you that you
are doing a great job supporting what we do as
Soldiers. You have made our jobs as leaders a lot
easier. I am presently in an AC/RC position and the
BN has been mobilized. I have referred my NCOs to
your website and it is doing them justice in so many
ways. Sometimes I think the Reservists are surprised
as to what we do on a day to day basis to protect
our country. Keep up the great work!!! NAS, MSG, Task Force Gunslinger (FBTX) |
